Food for Life

Our Food Tasting Task Force (FTTF) was set up to support our Catering Manager as she tries out lots of new healthier foods and dishes in order to improve our school dinners. The School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) members are included in the Food Tasting Task Force, along with other children were chosen by the Catering Manager to ensure representation against various criteria for example; they enjoyed food, would be happy to taste new foods, from all year groups, had school dinners or sandwiches. Every time there is a new food/dish the children have a sample and have to indicate their thoughts with a sticker that is placed on our Food For Life Partnership board. This does encourage other children to be more adventurous in trying out new foods as there is always excitement when a new ‘food’ is presented.

New foods that we have tasted recently include crunchy herby chicken, pepperoni and tomato pasta bake and raspberry & lemon muffins.

Come and have a look at our noticeboard in the main School Hall to see what we have been up to.

All children in school get the opportunity to cook during the school year and Key Stage 2 children are invited to join a course of our cookery club in conjunction with the Let’s Get Cooking Foundation.

Our cookery club has learned about cutting and chopping skills by making a variety of dishes. Each week the children will get to try a new ingredient. At the end of the course, parents are invited to “Cook-Its” – cooking for parents with their children.

We also hold regular community events, such as Parents to Lunch days, and have taken part in the National Roast Dinner Day and the Let’s Get Cooking “Cookathon” where the children prepared the school lunch for their fellow pupils and parents.

Why don’t you try some of the fantastic recipes we have used at Cookery Club?

Our SNAG team meet each term to co-ordinate their action plan which is intended to support the school to achieve the Gold Award from the Food For Life Partnership.
