Swimming Dates for School Year 2021/22
We plan to swim again from January 2022 and have booked for Thursday mornings (10.45am – 11.15am) starting on Thursday 6 January 2022 subject to any changes to Public Health guidance in the New Year.
One of the Government’s targets is that all children are able to swim at least 25 metres before they leave primary school. However, the current Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have missed out on their swimming for the past 2 years (they last swam before lockdown in March 2020). I am therefore going to amend this year’s rota to give them the best chance to achieve this objective before they go onto secondary school. This year, the current Year 6 will be included in swimming lessons, as well as Years 3-5.
As long as there are no changes to guidance and we are allowed to take 2x year groups to the pool from January, then my plan is for Key Stage 2 pupils to swim as follows:-
Terms 3 and 4 (up to Easter) Years 4 and 5 swim
Terms 5 (up to May Half Term) Year 3 swim
Term 6 (up to the Summer Holiday) Year 6 swim
‘Plan B’ if we are only allowed one year group at a time is to take each year group for half a term (starting with Year 4 in Term 3).
If we receive guidance that we should not swim at all until the summer term, then we will prioritise Years 5 and 6 to swim in the summer so that those who have not yet achieved their 25 metres can do so. However, all Year 5 and 6 children will go swimming this year, even if they can already swim 25 metres.
