St Andrew’s Primary School Governors
2020-21
Mrs Pam Bassindale Chair | |
|
I joined the Governing Body in September 2013, having just retired as the headteacher of a local primary school after a long career teaching in primary and secondary schools both here in the UK and in Germany. Mrs Walker was looking to find an LEA governor at the time and she always maintains I didn’t say “No” quickly enough!
Nevertheless, I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the St. Andrew’s team and having the opportunity to play a part in the education of the great children here. I feel privileged to have been elected as Chair of the Governing Body in September and I am now looking forward to the new challenges that this role will bring. I am on the Teaching & Learning Committee and the Pay and Performance Panel. |
Dr Jennifer Dolman
I think I became a Foundation Governor after not being able to say no as I was too busy eating bacon rolls at St Andrew’s Church Breakfast at 9 Sunday worship! In all seriousness being a non parent governor is something I have always considered doing and the questioned was popped at a time I was looking for different challenges. I work for the NHS. As well as having a clinical job I am involved in educating medical and non medical health professionals, wearing a number of different hats. I currently sit on the Finances and Premises committee and ask lots of questions at this and the Full Governing Body!

I joined St Andrews governing body in October 2014. I am a Foundation governor and have links to the school going back many years.
As well as both of my children being at the school, I am the first person on the governing body to have attended St Andrews when I was a child. I have so many happy memories of the school that it was a pleasure to come back as a governor. And it is so encouraging to see what a welcoming and happy school it remains.
Funnily enough, the year I left St Andrews as a child in Year 6, was the same year that Mrs Walker joined the school!
My mum also worked at the school for a number of years as a dinner lady and to this day she remarks how many ex-pupils come up to her to say hello. Another example of how the children in our school exhibit politeness and confidence.
I am currently the Vice Chair and governor responsible for Health and Safety.

Mrs Liz Bunting |

I am Liz Bunting – I have been associated with St. Andrew’s School since my eldest son joined in January 1979!
I have worked at the school as a Teaching Assistant for many years and now, since retiring, I am employed for a couple of hours each week doing Social Skills Groups. I absolutely love it! The school is such a friendly place to be and the children are wonderful. As a Foundation Governor I share the responsibility for ensuring that the Religious Education and Collective Worships are carried out in the correct way.

Mr Andy Hall
I am a Foundation Governor appointed by the Diocese. I have been a governor for over 20 years, first getting involved when my children were at the school. I was Chair of Governors from 1999 until September 2018 and am still Chair of the Finance and Premises Committee monitoring expenditure. I am a retired Bank Manager and enjoy gardening and going to the theatre.

As a Parent Governor, I am keen to promote the interests of our children and support the staff in achieving each child’s individual best. I seek to assist with the priorities for the school, monitoring our schools performance and ensuring each child can work in a safe and friendly environment. As well as offering the potential for high achievement in the 3R’s, I firmly believe school should be fun and St Andrew’s has a truly family feel with a great Christian ethos. Children of all abilities are able to experience opportunities in many areas including sport, music and drama; a tradition which should continue, and one that I am very happy to encourage and fully support. I am a Chartered Engineer and parent with a long association with St. Andrew’s School. I am delighted to run a Key Stage 2 Engineering Club at St. Andrew’s, when possible, and am particularly interested in promoting and supporting STEM subjects with my many years of experience. I work as a STEM Ambassador in Wiltshire and bring with me extensive knowledge in these subjects and am also an active member of the Institute of Engineering Designers. |

Mrs Julia Edwards | |

My name is Julia Edwards, and I have been a parent governor since January 2020. I have two children currently at St. Andrew’s, and a third who left in July 2020, so my family has a wide experience of the school. In my work as a children’s author, I’ve also had the opportunity to see the school from another perspective over a period of several years, having led writing workshops at St. Andrew’s since 2015. This has allowed me to observe the school’s strengths and weaknesses, and compare it with other primary schools I’ve worked with around the UK. I am passionate about the importance of education, and while I believe St. Andrew’s is a great school, I’m not afraid to challenge decisions if I feel parents could be better represented. I am delighted to have the chance to give something back to the school as a parent governor, and I look forward to supporting St. Andrew’s as it continues to strive to give the best experience to all its children.
