Welcome Class 6, and well done for finding your way here. The next few weeks will be a bit different for all of us, but even though we can’t be together at school, I’m glad we can all share our learning here.
During school time, please remember to read every day and record it in your reading diary – I don’t want you to get rusty! Remember to count your pages and write them down in the back of your diary too. Please also remember to go on to Mathletics (I have set you plenty of tasks to do with our recent learning, and will continue to update this weekly.) Mrs Eadsforth has set you Spelling Shed tasks as usual and you are free to use Maths Shed with the same login details. Don’t forget that you also have access to Times Table Rockstars.
If that isn’t enough to keep you out of trouble, there’s a chart of activities below that you might like to try. They are just ideas, and I’d love you to be creative and think of some of your own.
I have now added a chart of Easter activities to keep you busy. It’s the holidays really, so you dont have to do anything that’s on there, but I know that some of you are really enjoying some of these. I particularly like the look of ‘egg jarping’ which I have just researched!
Finally, I have put up a list of useful links that I think you may be able to make use of and may even find enjoyable! Please do things that are important to you, and be kind and thoughtful to your families and friends.
White Rose Problem of the Day – We have got up to Day 14 in Class, why not keep going?
White Rose Home Learning – There are links for every year group here including online Maths lessons and related work.
TTS Activity Booklets – are free to download at the moment and include all sorts of curriculum activities.
The Youth Sports Trust – have made a selection of online resources especially for home learning.
Primary PE Planning – have made a special home learning pack available for parents.
LitFilmFest – are releasing daily writing challenges that are suitable for home challenges too.
ChatterPack – have compiled a list of all sorts of free online resources. I have not checked the links within this, but there may be some that are useful.
As I become aware of any other good resources I will also post link here. If you find anything that you’ve really enjoyed, perhaps you could email me a link and I could share it with the rest of the class.
This term our topic is ‘War and Peace.’ If you would like to know what we have been learning, why not have a look at our Y6 War and Peace Parent Planner.
We started the term by finding out about The Treaty of Versailles which ended the First World War. We were very surprised to learn the very strict terms of The Treaty, and the effect this had on ordinary people in Germany. This helped us to understand some of the causes of World War Two.
Since then, we have learnt many facts about World War Two by reading the book ‘Goodnight Mr Tom.’ It has helped us to understand why children were evacuated, and what life was like for them and their families during this time. We got into role, and wrote letters either as parents or evacuees. We also had a visit from Mrs Hodgson (Miss Hodgson’s Mum) who lived through the war in Hastings. She told us lots of stories about air-raids, rationing, evacuation, air-raid shelters, ‘ack ack’ guns, doodlebugs and even ‘unconscious pilot!’
We are really looking forwards to learning more about life on the home front in the 1930’s and 1940’s, and can’t wait to welcome you to our Class Worship on Friday 13th March.
