Welcome to Class 2!
The home of some bubbling learners!
Our class teachers are Miss Clark and Ms Briddon
and our TAs are Mrs Lupton and Mrs Dennett
The Sunshine Breakfast Club is now available. Please ask for a form and we will be happy to send one home.
We have all been very happy to be back to school with our friends again. We started our return with Science Week! Each class looked at an important female linked to STEM, we learnt about Amelia Earhart and lots of our leaning this week has been based around the things she achieved. We made paper aeroplanes, straw rockets and rocket mice.
We went on a walk with the iPads to take photos of the signs of spring and had lots of fun running down the big hill.
We also took part in lots of experiments:
Spring 1 – Our topic this term is Africa
Here are the links to White Rose Maths planning which follows the same progression we will be following at school. There are also links to teaching videos for each day.
Autumn Term 2
This term, Class 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We have explored various media forms to investigate this subject including, art, music, DT and literature.
We wrote diaries from the perspective and style of Samuel Pepys. Evie wrote: ‘I was woken by my servant, she was looking very worried at her front window. She was shouting ‘There’s a fire!’ When the fire started to spread more and more I started to get worried about her and looked out of the window. I was shocked by how much the fire had spread. There was so much smoke.’
We also created a street from London in 1666, paying attention to the design of the houses and how this led to the fire spreading so quickly.
Class 2 created lanterns to symbolise the silhouette of the buildings against the fire, we really enjoyed lighting our candles and seeing our lanterns.
As part of our literacy topic, we wrote letters to Mrs Walker to persuade her to allow us to have a pyjama day. We loved it!
Autumn Term 1
We have had a busy start to our year in Class 2 with our topic of explorers. We have especially enjoyed our role-play area, becoming Christopher Columbus and Robert Falcon Scott, as well as exploring the space tent to learn about Neil Armstrong.
Our literacy topic has been based around the story of ‘The Papaya That Spoke’, and we have been writing our own versions, changing the characters within the story. Here is the beginning of Henry’s story:
Once upon a time there was a lovely builder who lived in a damp cabin at the building site. One sunny morning, he felt hungry so he went out to pick a sweetcorn. To his surprise, the sweetcorn spoke. ‘’Hands off!’’
In science, we have been learning about habitats and lifecycles. We worked in teams to create posters showing different habitats. Here is one of our posters to show a pond habitat.
We have been enjoying our outdoor area, building tents and doing lots of outdoor learning.
